For Clients Exploring FMTY with Canadian Sex Workers: What You Should Know

As some of you may know, I was having major writers block this week, which led me to asking my beautiful followers and clients for suggestions for writing content! I received so many great responses and ideas that I can’t add everything into just one post! Thank you to everyone who contributed! I am going to start off by discussing FMTY experiences outside of Canada, particularly the US, because I think it’s a topic that is high risk.

FMTY Tips: What You Should Know

I myself have only ever been on FMTY’s inside Canada, so take this with a grain of salt, but from experience with those, and hearing from others in the industry who’ve been on them, you have to be very careful.

As sex workers travelling to the US, it’s not just as simple as looking like a “normal” civvie girl crossing the border– no one in their right mind is going to be crossing in their lingerie and stripper heels anyways. There’s so much more to it than that.

We face discrimination and stigmatization every day, and at the boarder is no different. US customs and border patrol officers may hold biased attitudes towards sex workers leading to increased scruitiny, denials of entry or other negative consequences for those trying to cross the border.

Given the risks associated with crossing the border, some sex workers may choose to explore alternate arrangements. But for those that do decide to cross, taking safety precautions is essential, like ensuring that travel plans are well thought through and prioritizing personal safety throughout their journey.

First of all, we can’t even travel with our work phones. If we do we have to delete everything, and I mean EVERYTHING from our phones like TwitterInstagram, emails, all photos etc that might be incriminating when crossing the border. Also, we have to ensure we don’t wear anything we’ve worn in our ads when crossing, that’s an obvious. It’s much harder for those who are face out, but everyone is at risk of being detained and questioned.

We most certainly can’t travel with condoms, lingerie, toys and high heels– all of these are red flags. We have to have cover stories lined up so that we don’t incriminate ourselves.

And, it’s even more dangerous and risky for black and Arab sex workers due to discrimination and racial profiling.

All this to say, I haven’t had any FMTY requests that have really pulled at me enough to get me to go. However, I’m not opposed to the idea. I would love to hop on a plane and travel to you! But that is, under the right circumstances. If you’ve been following my blog/ subscribed to my newsletter for a while now, I think you know just how to sway me;)

I’ve got an itchhhhhh for a FMTY now! Someone help me!

Ps, make it somewhere warmmmm
